Being Proud of where we live

About

Established in June 2011 and incorporated in March 2013 Sanctuary Point Community Pride Inc. is one of several civic pride organisations created with the assistance of the Community Development team at Shoalhaven City Council.

Bringing community together

We work to build on the assets of an area, to point to the good things and work to build community pride. We look at ways to improve the quality of life for residents, young and old alike, supporting neighbourhood self-reliance through community-based problem-solving, neighbourhood oriented services and public and private cooperation. Besides the Council, we are supported by the Bendigo Bank.

See Our Projects page to see the projects we have undertaken for our community.

Our Mission

Sanctuary Point Community Pride Inc’s mission is to increase pride in the Sanctuary Point Community.

We want

  • all residents to feel proud of where they live.

  • our community to feel good about where they live.

The residents of Sanctuary Point are at the heart of our beautiful coastal village; by encouraging civic pride in our community, we can achieve the quality of life desired by residents, create and maintain a village for all.

A brief History of SPCP

Sanctuary Point Community Pride Inc. came about due to a community meeting held on June 2011. This meeting was convened by Council and involved community members and local police. The purpose of this meeting “was to have a positive outcome of what can be achieved in easy that the community can work together to build a safer community with a focus on the future and not on past events”. This meeting established the Sanctuary Point Community Pride Project Taskforce.

The first meeting of the Sanctuary Point Community Pride Project Taskforce took place the same month. It was an asset-based group that would “build on strengths in the area and not focus on negatives.” The purpose of the meetings was to bring positives, and for the Sanctuary Point community can work together to build a safer community. Meetings were to focus on the future and not on past events.

In April 2012, the idea of a community event was raised, and this became the first Spring into Sanctuary Point. On 29th August 2012, the Inaugural AGM for Sanctuary Point Community Pride was held. Office bearers were elected, and a constitution was adopted. To qualify for membership qualification for the group would be “Anyone who works, lives or plays in Sanctuary Point”.

Founding Office Bearers:

Chair – Allen Kruse
Vice Chair – Tony Blain
Treasurer – Michael Flannery

The Constitution was written and accepted at the October 2012 meeting. Bendigo Bank provided a $1000 grant to cover incorporation costs.

Sanctuary Point Community Pride would like to acknowledge the support of Allen Kruse, Veronica Husted, Melissa Hedger, Donna Corbyn and local politicians Joanna Gash, Gemma Tribe, Shelley Hancock and Bob Proudfoot for their assistance and support in the development of Sanctuary Point Community Pride Inc.

Logo Design

The original logo was designed by Andy Needham and was adopted in 2013.  It includes a fisherman sitting in a boat in St Georges Basin and a Kangaroo, which are plentiful in Sanctuary Point.

The logo was updated by Peter Costello of Yes! Creative in 2022 as part of our brand refresh.
