On Friday, 21st April 2023, Community Pride members ran the free Sausage Sizzle at Firefly Bay and Basin‘s Youth Week Festival at Sanctuary Point Skate Park. Community Pride was grateful for the opportunity as their Neighbour Day BBQ, set for 1st April, was cancelled due to wet weather. The committee agreed that the Neighbour Day grant from Shoalhaven City Council would be used at this community event.
Community Pride would like to congratulate Firefly on organising an excellent event for the youth of our community and the organisations that assisted them. Highlights from the day were the Aboriginal Dancers from Vincentia High School, who conducted the Welcome to Country and demonstrated several dances. We enjoyed seeing the Youth Insearch team running ping pong competitions at the ping pong table and seeing so many children enjoy the skate park before and after their Totem Skateboarding workshops.
On the day, we served 300 sausages and 100+ drinks to the community. We initially thought 100 sausages and bread would be enough, but we quickly found out we were mistaken and had to run over to the shops to buy more.
Special thanks
We want to thank the following people for their assistance on the day:
- Barry Higgins from Uniting
- Councillor Even Christian (Ward 2)
- Andrew and Harriet Percy
- Community Pride members Allen Kruse, Gwen Price, David Wells and Christine McInerney-Percy
