Spring Fair a great success

Despite challenging weather, the community came in droves to take in the sites of some 40+ stallholders and community groups at the St Georges Basin Country Club where a great day was had by all.

On 22nd October 2022, Sanctuary Point Community Pride held its annual Spring into Sanctuary Point fair, which was a success despite the weather predictions. With the usual venue of the Francis Ryan Reserve too muddy, we were gratified that The Country Club St Georges Basin came to the rescue. President Bob Proudfoot arranged for us to use the club’s auditorium. We thank Bob, Group CEO Ben Clegg, Assistant Manager Luke and their admirable staff.

Although we couldn’t accommodate a few of our usual stalls, there were 40 stalls with something for every age group. Goods and pamphlets were displayed at tables rather than in booths. Activities included the Viking-themed “The Shire of Adora”, the Verb Syndicate VR experience arranged by Firefly, and the 1st SGB Scouts gave a demonstration. There was the very popular jumping castle and Lucky Dip stall for the littlies. Information stalls included Bendigo Bank, the Library, Red Cross, SES and the RFS.

Over 500 people attended the fair with a chance to win one of the lucky door prizes very generously supplied by local shopkeepers. Entertainment was provided by Radio 97.3 FM and bands “Last Chance Honey” and “Nukem” ukulele group.

Firefly ran a poster competition to promote the fair and the talented young people in our area. The winner was Lani Kovalik, aged 13, who created a bright and colourful design.

Our monster raffle was drawn. The first prize of the Wedding Package includes vouchers from The Country Club Vincentia; All Seasons Celebrancy; Curley Mermaid Hair & Beauty; Plough & Harrow bakery; Sanctuary Point Printing; Nora Devai Photography; and Jervis Bay Florist was won by ticket number 007806.

The second prize of six months’ gym membership donated by Anytime Fitness Vincentia was won by ticket number 006392. The third prize of a giant tub of garden products donated by Sanctuary Point Garden Centre was won by ticket number 007919. The fourth prize of a hand-crocheted rug donated by Joan Hall & Charlie Sumner was won by ticket number 007269. Ticket number 006951 won the $100 voucher that Symone’s Avenue of Beauty donated. The sixth prize for homemade jams & spreads was won by 007034. Raffle proceeds will go to Noah’s Children’s Services for all-abilities outdoor play equipment.

Sanctuary Point Community Pride looks forward to the 2023 Spring Into Sanctuary Point fair, when we can showcase our local community groups, clubs and organisations again.
