Sanctuary Point Community Pride was proud to be invited to Vincentia High School‘s well-being hub, Walawaani-ngarn, opening on Friday, 2nd June 2023. Gwen Price (Secretary) and Allen Kruse (Past President) proudly attended the Opening on behalf of Sanctuary Point Community Pride.
The opening marked a significant milestone for the school as it aimed to prioritise its students’ mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Walawaani-ngarn embodies the spirit of inclusivity and support. The hub’s name is derived from the local indigenous language. It means “Welcome Place” The choice of name reflected the school’s commitment to honouring and respecting the cultural heritage of the land on which it stood.
The architecture of the well-being hub was a visual delight, seamlessly blending natural elements with modern design. The building featured large windows that allowed ample natural light to flood the interiors, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The facility includes a large reception meeting area and four private consultation rooms that outside agencies will use to deliver various professional support services to students. Outside the building is a spacious deck, and a native garden that provides a tranquil setting for students and staff to unwind and connect with nature.
Sanctuary Point Community Pride Inc. took immense pride in assisting Vincentia High School by auspicing some funds for the fit-out and gardens of Walawaani-ngarn. As a community-based organisation, we are committed to supporting local initiatives and fostering a sense of pride within our community. This partnership exemplified the power of community collaboration in realising impactful projects that benefit the community as a whole.
